Caplugs & Protective Industries Expand Carbon Footprint Transparency

Caplugs & Protective Industries Expand Carbon Footprint Transparency

At Caplugs and Protective Industries, our commitment to environmental responsibility goes beyond good intentions, it requires rigorous data collection, honest reporting and continuous improvement.

This Earth Day, we’re proud to share a milestone in our sustainability journey with an even closer look at our total carbon footprint through greater Scope 3 emissions reporting.

Initial Emissions Reporting Efforts, 2022–2024

Our sustainability reporting efforts began in 2022 with a focus on the emissions categories most directly tied to our operations. During this period, we collected and reported data across three core categories:

  • Scope 1 – Emissions from fuels and refrigerants used in our facilities
  • Scope 2 – Emissions from electricity used in our facilities
  • Scope 3, Category 5 – Waste generated in our operations

These categories represented an estimated 10-20% of Protective Industries' total carbon inventory, giving us a reliable baseline to measure progress and drive results.

Additional Emissions Reporting, 2025-2026

While our initial reporting captured the direct operational share of our emissions profile, we recognized that a comprehensive picture required looking beyond our own walls.

In 2025, we undertook an expanded emissions data collection effort, adding six additional Scope 3 emissions categories including:

  • Category 1 – Purchased goods and services
  • Category 2 – Capital expenditures
  • Category 3 – Energy-related emissions not already captured under Scopes 1 & 2
  • Category 4 – Upstream (inbound) transportation
  • Category 6 – Business travel
  • Category 9 – Downstream (outbound) transportation

This additional data includes important emissions information dating from 2022 through 2025, with reporting completed this February.

What the Data Tells Us

To get a more complete view of Protective Industries' global emissions, we tracked our progress for the newly added Scope 3 categories, as well as all scopes in total from 2022 to 2025. The results can be seen in the data table below.

The breadth of progress across our global facilities is encouraging. Our thirteen reporting facilities show meaningful reductions in both Scope 3 and total emissions since 2022, with several including Caplugs Belgium (-87%), Caplugs San Marino (-65%), Caplugs Netherlands (-54%), and Caplugs Germany (-55%) achieving particularly significant improvements in Scope 3 emissions.

Our largest facilities by emissions volume, including Protective East (Caplugs East & Mokon), Caplugs Erie, Caplugs West and Caplugs China, have each reduced their Scope 3 footprint by 40% or more over the same period.

Why This Matters

Real accountability means looking at the full picture. Caplugs and Protective Industries aren't satisfied with measuring the easy stuff, we're committed to tracking every available source of emissions across our operations and supply chain and driving meaningful reductions year after year. That's not just something we say on Earth Day, it's something we can prove each and every day.
