New Silo Installed at Caplugs’ Buffalo Headquarters

Caplugs is proud to announce the installation of a new silo at its Elmwood Avenue facility. The silo will feed raw material to the manufacturing floor with greater efficiency, while minimizing the company’s environmental footprint.
The 12'x24' silo was installed Jan. 7-9, 2026 and will house material for both the company’s Safeplast and Pig’s Tail hose protection and hose bundling product lines.
The recycled grade high density polyethylene (HDPE) material to be housed within the silo will feed directly to plastic extrusion lines that produce the Safeplast and Pig’s Tail products. This will reduce machine downtime caused today by manual material changes and refills, while simultaneously freeing up space on the manufacturing floor previously used to store gaylords of material.
The silo will help Caplugs scale manufacturing to support added market demand, with the ability to house 60,000 pounds of material at any time.
“This installation represents our ongoing commitment to operational efficiency,” said Vinny Philippone, Facility/Manufacturing Engineer. “The additional capacity will allow us to better serve our customers.”
The project will aid in Caplugs ongoing commitment to minimize its environmental footprint through The Protective Promise. As part of this initiative to reduce waste, conserve resources and promote renewable energy, the new silo will eliminate the need for deliveries of gaylords, allowing for more bulk material delivery - reducing overall truck traffic and deliveries to the Buffalo facility.
The new silo also allowed Caplugs to explore options to reduce and reuse resources, with sustainability teams ultimately choosing to source post-consumer content raw material for the new extrusion lines. With an estimated 800,000 pounds of raw material moving annually through the silo, this shift reduces Caplugs raw material carbon footprint by 84% over virgin materials and represents a net annual carbon footprint reduction of 2,000 metric tons. Caplugs commitment to sustainability begins at its Buffalo headquarters and extends globally across 17 worldwide facilities.
Hose protection and bundling products produced at the Buffalo facility, including spiral wrap products are sold across the United States and globe to protect hydraulic hoses on heavy equipment used in agriculture, construction and mining operations.
The new silo is the fourth of its kind at the company’s global headquarters on Elmwood Avenue.
