Caplugs All Pros: James M.

Medical Product Line Manager, James M., has seen his role within Caplugs grow considerably over the last few years, evolving from a marketing intern to a leader who oversees our medical catalog offerings.

Previously holding roles within the company including Product Line Manager - Labware for Caplugs Evergreen, he has gained important experience in overseeing our labware products while growing his knowledge of the medical market.

This foundation led to his recent promotion to Medical Product Line Manager, where he manages the entire medical catalog, for both Caplugs Medical and Caplugs Evergreen.

As Medical Product Line Manager, James serves as the central knowledge hub for Caplugs' Medical product lines, overseeing the medical catalog portfolio end-to-end, all while emphasizing Caplugs' commitment to quality, supply reliability and faster time-to-value for all medical customers.

“In my role, I work with marketing, sales, inside sales, customer service, quality and production, ensuring we're all aligned and moving in the same direction,” said James. “Whether it's improving product capabilities and offerings, handling customer-specific projects, adding or removing products from the line or clearly communicating our competitive advantages to customers, we're always looking for ways we can be improving the overall customer experience,” said James.

By communicating directly with customers, James gathers valuable feedback that informs product development decisions. At the same time, his deep knowledge of medical components and the Caplugs product line allows him to communicate more effectively with customers.

“I love being able to lead that charge and get people on board with a vision for where we should be going,” said James. “I'm gathering insights from each department, maybe production has a capability that could lower costs or customer service is hearing specific feedback, and I'm working with everyone as a team to move toward our goals."

More Than a Supplier

One of James' primary initiatives is educating customers about Caplugs Medical's unique manufacturing capabilities, a distinction that sets Caplugs apart from competitors in the medical and labware space.

“I wish more customers understood our manufacturing capabilities for part modifications or catalog variations,” said James. “Many people see a product on our website and think, 'Oh, I need this in a different material, never mind.' What they often forget is we're the manufacturer, not just a distributor or reseller.”

Because Caplugs manufactures its own products across 13 manufacturing facilities worldwide, it has the ability to alter medical components to meet specific customer needs, whether that's changing materials, adding pad printing, adjusting quantities, modifying packaging, or providing private labeling. Caplugs has the infrastructure and expertise to provide custom medical parts that many competitors simply can't match.

Creative Problem-Solving

A recent success story illustrates James' approach to customer challenges. Caplugs was working with a large medical customer on an opportunity to sell them a new click-top vial at a better price than their current supplier. However, the customer needed a hard plastic racking option that Caplugs didn't currently offer for those specific vials.

James started investigating, reviewing part drawings and examining existing products. He discovered that Caplugs had a storage box designed to hold tubes and vials. It normally comes in three separate components, including a top lid, middle section with circular holes for vials and a bottom base.

“I measured the diameter of the holes in the middle section and realized it fit these vials perfectly for their racking needs,” said James. “So, we started selling the middle component as a standalone racking solution for the customer.”

The creative solution worked perfectly and is a great example of Caplugs modification capabilities. The customer now purchases these regularly. “When a customer has a need and we might not have what they’re looking for, we have the ability to get creative,” said James.

Embracing Medical Ecommerce

James also keeps a close eye on trends shaping the medical product industry, particularly the shift toward ecommerce.

“Ecommerce creates a broader reach, faster purchasing cycles and improved customer experience with subscription or auto-replenishment options,” said James. “The demand is already there, customers simply want a faster, more intuitive way to get the labware and medical components they need, and ecommerce provides a way for us to serve our customers more efficiently.”

Thank you, James!

James' growth shows what's possible when determination meets opportunity. We couldn't be prouder of the way he leads our medical and labware product lines.

When he's not working, James enjoys golf, pickleball, cooking, traveling and trivia.

Thank you, James! We look forward to what the future holds for both you and our medical and labware lines.
