Lead Extrusion Technician Joe W. runs production for extruded products including plastic tubing. Over his three years at Caplugs, he's grown from technician to department lead, now managing the team that produces tubing in various styles and sizes.
Setting Up and Running Extrusion Machines
As department lead, Joe handles scheduling and organizes his team, laying out the daily or weekly plan. But the "lead" title doesn't mean he's stepped away from the machines.
"Every day, I get my hands dirty with them. I'm not just sitting at a desk," Joe said.
Joe and his technicians are responsible for the entire machine setup, from the tooling to the material to the boxes that hold the finished products.
No matter what kind of tubing may be requested, each setup requires precision and attention to detail.
“Whatever the customer wants, we can usually make it for them,” Joe said. “If they come in one day and tell me they want pink tubes, they get pink tubes.”
